Indigenous knowledge systems play a vital role in advancing sustainable development, particularly in rural communities where traditional practices have long fostered environmental stewardship, resilience, and social cohesion. Accordingly, this study examines how indigenous wisdom—including sustainable agriculture, water conservation, herbal medicine, and cultural ethics—in Mutasa District, Zimbabwe, contributes to sustainable development in an ever-changing world. Through case studies from various rural communities within the district, this research highlights the innovative ways traditional knowledge is integrated into modern sustainability efforts, demonstrating its relevance in addressing contemporary environmental and socio-economic challenges. The findings emphasise the need for policy frameworks that acknowledge and harness indigenous knowledge to promote inclusive and enduring development strategies. In an era of technological advancement and shifting global paradigms, this paper advocates for the synergy between traditional knowledge and modern innovations to create holistic and adaptive solutions for sustainable development.
